New artwork at SickKids CCMH helps kids label emotions

Anna (right), a local high school student and artistWhen working with children to explore their mental health needs, the environment in which they meet with therapists is crucial. As SickKids CCMH staff continues to improve the look and feel of the therapeutic space, it is important to have artwork that is both aesthetically appealing and meaningful to the work they do. Christie Hayos, Manager, Outpatient and Inpatient departments, recently commissioned some artwork in a therapy room at the Jarvis site from Anna (right), a local high school student and artist.

Says Christie: “With this artwork, we have focused on creative and playful drawings that depict typical emotions children may be grappling with in their lives. The cartoon characters in the drawings contribute to helping children visually see the emotions they experience on others, as well as a word to describe the emotions. Thanks to Anna who volunteered her time to create these images for us!”
