Change in SickKids CCMH services due to increasing community cases of COVID-19

11/17/2020

If you need emergency help, please call 911, go to your local or SickKids emergency department, or call a local distress centre or crisis service.

On Nov. 13, public health classified Toronto as a “red zone” with greater restrictions on numbers allowed in public places such as bars, restaurants and gyms.

These restrictions don’t affect the ability of SickKids CCMH staff to deliver in-person, onsite care. Staff take great care to follow infection controls to keep themselves and our clients and families safe. Our safety guidelines for these visits remain in place. Our virtual care options also continue.

However, because of the higher rates of cases in the community, there are three services areas which will be impacted for as long as Toronto is considered a red zone:
  1. In-home services: If you receive visits in your home, these will be temporarily suspended. Your clinician will be in contact with you to arrange a different option such as: phone; videoconferencing; an onsite visit; or a visit in the community (such as at a community centre where you can remain physically distanced).
  2. Community services: If you meet with your clinician in the community, note that they will be suggesting a reliably available meeting place where you will be able to remain distanced and committed to wearing masks. You will not be able to meet your clinician for a walk, for instance.
  3. Live-in services: Our live-in services are temporarily suspended.
Once Toronto is moving towards lower cases in the community again, and is reclassified away from the “red zone,” we will reassess how these services can be delivered. For more information on COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines, please refer to the COVID-19 City of Toronto site.

If you have any questions about your care, please ask your clinician.
