Job Description:
SickKids Centre for Community Mental Health (SickKids CCMH) is a community-based children’s mental health centre providing prevention, in-home support, day treatment, outpatient assessment and treatment and residential support to children ages birth to 18.  SickKids CCMH is integrated with the Hospital for Sick Children (HSC) inpatient and ambulatory mental health services for children. As a stand-alone community-focused agency SickKids CCMH is working with the Hospital for Sick Children to create pathways to care that will ensure that children with mental health concerns and mental illness and their families are able to access the care they need in a timely fashion.  SickKids CCMH is an accredited teaching facility affiliated to various academic institution including The University of Toronto.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Conducts comprehensive psychological assessments and consultations for children and adolescents ages approximately 5 – 18 years
  • Collaborates with the family, the clinician, and/or inter-professional clinical teams to use assessment results to support treatment planning
  • Provides a range of direct treatment services to children, adolescents, and families, i.e., individual and family therapy using a variety of modalities in which the clinician is competent. Therapy would also include case management and liaison
  • Completes all client documentation (including, but not limited to, contact notes, assessment reports, incident reports/serious occurrence reports, etc.) in a timely and succinct manner and that it meets agency, professional, and legal standards
  • Ensures that all required client tracking and statistical information is submitted per agency procedures & requirements
  • Maintains up-to-date professional development that is relevant to the position and the Centre’s mission & mandate
  • Participates in relevant meetings, reports regularly and as required by the designated supervisor
  • Ensures that provided services are carried out in accordance with Centre policies, procedures, and standards including those related to case management, documentation, and reports
 Other 
  • Complies with the organization’s vision, policies and procedures
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by management
 Effort: 
  • Concentration and creativity required daily to perform assessments, score/write reports, read, listen, watch, attend meetings, use critical thinking related to scientific information, teach, conduct research, etc.
  • Sits for long period of time to perform the duties of the job, as well as uses office equipment, psychological testing materials and lifts up to 15 pounds (test equipment)
 
Qualifications: 
  • The minimum level of education required to fulfill the core requirements of this position is a Doctoral Degree in Psychology, registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario, and declared competency in clinical psychology with children, adolescents and ideally, families, however, we would welcome applications of those in supervised practice declaring competency in clinical psychology with children, adolescents and ideally, families.
  • Well-developed skills in assessment and knowledge of a variety of clinical interventions are essential.
  • A minimum of three years previous related clinical experience in the various major responsibility areas is preferred; practica and internship experiences will be taken into consideration
  • Social and multicultural sensitivity.
 
     Working Conditions:  
  • Works in pleasant office environment, including clients’ homes/schools, on occasion
  • Exposure to deadlines, multiple demands, stress, verbal abuse and work schedule affecting lifestyle
  • Some exposure to hazards such as highly emotional situations and threats of violence
  • Work hours may need to be flexible and extended to meet the needs of the clients (i.e., evening work)
  • This position may require some travel between at least two of the Centre’s sites
